Many drivers choose to stay on the road during the holiday season for the chance to increase their earnings. Holidays often see a spike in demand, stores require extra stocks, and drivers can expect extra income. This is one of the main advantages of staying on the road during this time.

However, a time that is particularly festive and filled with joy for many, can also be a time filled with grief and sadness for some. Our drivers agree that they become especially lonely during the holiday season, thinking of all the special moments they have to spend away from their loved ones. Talking to our drivers gave us some insight into how they cope with these hardships, and what it is that brings them comfort and makes their spirit a little more joyful.

1. Decorating your truck

One of our drivers shared a story that had us reduced to tears. He told us how every year he will decorate his trucks with lights, ornaments, and a little tree, and a couple of years ago he witnessed a beautiful moment between a son and his father.  The son was in awe at this driver’s truck and he turned to his dad to ask him what kind of a truck that was. The father replied: “The truckers are real-life Santa Clauses. They are the ones to thank for having gifts under your Christmas trees every year.” This perspective was so heartwarming, and we hope you remember it each time you feel lonely on the road during the holidays. You can’t be immune to children’s excitement at you, real-life Santa’s.

2. Video chatting with their loved ones

We have already discussed how you can turn the digital age to your advantage. Video chatting, online gaming, texting, and photo-sharing can help you stay connected. One specific way that one of our drivers likes to stay connected during the holidays, is to video chat with his children while they are unwrapping their presents. The enthusiasm on his children’s faces at this special moment makes him get in the festive spirit, and feel less isolated.

3. Celebrate with your OTR family

A great advice we got from our drivers, is to remember that there’s also your OTR family. Plenty of them told us they’ve made lifelong friendships in this company, and that they always feel like they are a part of the community. Therefore, they find comfort in their gatherings at truck stops, where they’ll meet up to grab dinner, talk about their lives, families, careers, and anything in between, as well as share advice. They recommend staying in touch and organizing a nice festive dinner with your fellow truckers at one of your favorite truck stops. This will lighten up your mood and we highly recommend joining our groups on Facebook, where you can truly feel the spirit of camaraderie and organize your gatherings.

We hope you spend your holidays filled with love and great company, whether that’s your family or your fellow truck drivers. At Super Ego, we understand the importance of a supportive community and cherish our team members’ companionship. Whether navigating the open road or celebrating at home, know that your dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.
